To celebrate the importance of improving properties in Letchworth Garden City, The Heritage Foundation carry out annual awards to recognise owners, designers and contractors who observe the highest standards of design and workmanship when carrying out restoration, alterations or new building work.
It’s fantastic to see that DB Sharps core values of providing high quality workmanship and professionalism are recognised in the fact that two of our projects have been selected for the final this year.
24 Pasture Road – Category winner of – Best Extension or Alterations to a Modern Character Area Home.
A detached house originally built in the 1970s which the current owners have refurbished and re-designed. The front elevation has a strong building line of gables clad in tile hanging and weatherboarding with a sun room over the porch to give “kerb appeal”. The work also included a re-design of the internal spaces as well as new windows.
Pasture Road is an eclectic mix of design genres and the Judges felt that the individuality of this contemporary design worked well within the context of Pasture Road.
9 Broadwater Avenue – Category winner of – Best Extension or Alterations to a Heritage Character Home.
This detached house was built by the Letchworth Development Syndicate circa 1913. The house is distinctive for its tall central gable which sweeps down to ground floor level and dominates the front elevation. Great care has been taken over the refurbishment of this Home of Special Interest.
The house has been extended to the rear to provide further accommodation and the Judges were of the opinion that the design of the central gable feature which mirrors the front elevation and the attention to detail even down to the herringbone and basket weave patterns to the brickwork in the timber frame made this extension worthy of an Award.
Speaking on behalf of DB Sharp, David Sharp told us “Its really a testament to the hard work of our on site teams, project managers and our lust for consistent high quality results. It’s easy to say you can provide quality workmanship but its great to see that this is being recognised by external, independent parties. For us it verifies what we already had confidence in, the service we provide is as good as we promote. A big well done to team Sharp.”
The entire team at DB Sharp are looking forward to seeing who will win. In the meantime why not go and cast your own vote www.letchworth.com/heritageawards

It coincides with an exciting new era at DB Sharp and Sons where our head office will be moving to bigger premises. Director Martin Sharp told us; “its a long way from where we started in a garage at my mother and fathers house. Its a real achievment that our team has grown large enough to warrant a whole new building to house us all, and along with the building the new logo gives us a fresh, new modern image.” Exciting times ahead.

Lee has worked for DB Sharp and Sons for over 20 years, joining the company back in November 1996. Managing Director David Sharp said “Its a great event to be involved with, bringing local business people together with one common interest, Hertfordshire. Being a business owner myself sponsoring the “business person of the year award” also has a lot of personal attachment, we will be looking forward to meeting the nominees”. 10 months of the working year lay ahead before the awards but DB Sharp and Sons are already looking forward to the event.
This year DB Sharp and Sons have dipped there toes into a the world of 6 aside football leagues. The DB Sharp Allstars team is made open to anyone from the company who wishes to play. Director and loyal spectator Martin Sharp told us “We have a variety of guys playing from all types of trades that work for us, its a fantastic team building exercise.” Its been a rocky start for the boys after suffering some initial heavy losses. Team captain Ross Sharp said “We dont have the advantage of experience or training together like some of the other teams we come up against, but over the last couple of months we have began to gel as a team”. This was evident in this weeks result. The boys held on for a 4 all draw in a thrilling match against a team much higher placed in the league than the Allstars. Well done boys and we’ll be keeping a close eye on you for the rest of the season.
All the Directors and staff at DB Sharp and sons would like to congratulate Steven Kent, this months employee of the month and the first winner of the golden hard hat.
