David left his job in 1981 to join his two brothers and father after working as an electrical apprentice. He began laboring and learning his skills in bricklaying, carpentry and all other aspects of building. David saw the potential that DB Sharp and Sons LTD possessed, through pushing its core values of quality workmanship and customer service along with his expertise in project management, he was able to grow the company to one of the largest and most respected in the area. With the DB Sharp and Sons name highly respected and recognized in and around north Hertfordshire.
David’s interests include, Cycling, Rugby and spending time with his family and friends. David has also helped to support local sports teams and promote sport in the North Herts area, he was an integral part in the growth of the mini’s section as mini’s chairman at Letchworth Rugby club before becoming the club Chairman, a position he held for 7 years with great success. David’s cycling has taken him on bike rides from Lands’ End to John O’Groats and from Malin head to Mizen head the length of Ireland, all carried out for charitable causes.
Martin Sharp left work to join his father Derek in 1979 to set up DB Sharp and Sons LTD. Starting with electrical installations, plumbing, heating and small alteration works they began to make a name for themselves as a company that cared for quality. Throughout his years at DB Sharp and Sons LTD, Martin perfected his skills in the mechanical sector of building and now runs the team of electrical, heating and plumbing engineers and continues to bring quality and efficiency to every job he undertakes. Martin is always keeping ahead of new technology and helping to keep DB Sharp and Sons LTD ahead of its rivals.
Martin is a keen football fan and is a loyal supporter of his beloved Arsenal, he manages the DB Sharp 5 a side football team and never fails to miss a fixture. He is also a big fan of Formula 1 which he enjoys watching on a Sunday afternoon in the season. His biggest passion is for music and he can often be found at a concert or seeing a live band at the weekend. If Martin can find time at 10:30am is ear is always close to radio 2 testing himself on Ken Bruce’s, pop master quiz, often beating the live contestants. Martin is also a keen cyclist and cycles to work most days.
Richard left school and began work as a trainee quantity surveyor. Around 1980 he left to join his brother Martin and father Derek at DB Sharp and Sons LTD. He began by helping to run small building projects with his granddad Albert Tyler who was a retired bricklayer. Richard learnt his trades through his years at DB Sharp and Sons LTD and now runs large and small building projects, always pushing the core values of quality and efficiency within his team of skilled tradesmen, which has helped to build the reputation of DB Sharp and Sons LTD.
One of Richards’s biggest passions outside of the work place is food! Not just any old food, fine dining food. Richard has visited many of the top restaurant across the UK and Europe. To counteract all the eating, Richard is a keen golfer and also enjoys taking long walks with his beloved dog Alfie. He has appeared in several local pantomimes and always brings a good energy and humor to the stage. Recently Richard has meticulously refurbished a 40 year old land rover defender returning it to its original glory.
Grandson of the company’s founder Derek Sharp, Jack has followed in the footsteps of both him and his father David by joining the family business. Jack learnt his way around a building site at a young age and as soon as he was old enough was working on site. After 4 years site work Jack showed a keen interest in converting what he had learned by applying it to other areas of the company. With continued training Jack has become a competent estimator. He can quickly identify with the wants, needs and requirements of customers and his site experience enables him to have an in depth understanding of what each project requires.
No longer able to play Jack is still a huge fan of Rugby a keen Saracens supporter he can often be found on the side line of Twickenham watching his beloved England. Jacks other main passion outside of work is pretty much anything to do with Cars, Top Gear (the old version) and Formula 1. He is 100% Petrol Head and annually takes a trip with his Dad to the Goodwood Festival of speed.
Chris holds over 20 years’ experience in account management and business development positions. As Managing Director of a leading print and display company, Chris was responsible for the landing of and project management of projects with M&S, BP, Wild Bean, Tesco and B&Q. For 12 years Chris was Managing Director at Herts Rental Group, and was principal in the growth of the company from a 5 vehicle fleet to a commercial fleet of over 150 vehicles. Chris’s ability to consistently listen to and fully understand customer needs and requirements enables him to deliver exceptional results that exceed expectations whilst remaining on time and on budget.
Outside of the office Chris is a huge Rugby fan and is still playing competitive Rugby at Letchworth Rugby Club, where he has played for the last 18 years, captaining both the 2nd and 3rd team sides on many occasions. Chris is a huge family man and loves spending time away with his kids, he can often be found in his holiday home on the Norfolk coast, enjoying time on the beach or possibly in the pub!
Paul originally started in the building trade as an apprentice brick layer for his Fathers Company Howes and Boughton. After spending 6 years on site Paul moved on to a role in site management, looking after many internal refurb projects, roofing projects and extensions. Paul eventually gravitated towards working in an office environment putting his combined skills to work and providing general surveying, pricing and managing of projects. Paul continues this role within the DB Sharp group and is an expert in customer relations.
Paul dedicates a lot of his spare time to Scouting, and is an Assistant Scout Leader at Ridgeway Scouts, Stotfold Branch. Outside of this he is a keen horse rider and has been riding since he was a teenager.
He enjoys spending time with his family away on holiday in their Caravan, and can be found most Sundays, watching his son playing football for Stotfold youth.
Malcom started his career in the building industry in 1971 as an apprentice carpenter, at AGB Joinery based in Stotfold, while studying carpentry at Luton Building College for 5 years. Malcom inevitably moved on and worked for another local firm Haywood’s as a carpenter before becoming a site supervisor. Eventually Malcom decided to work for himself where he built up a team of 8 carpenters and carried out works for many local building companies including DB Sharp. He joined the DBS team in 2007 as a contracts manager and has been a valued asset to the company ever since putting his vast experience and industry contacts to great use. In 2016 Malcom decided it was time to slow down and take on less stress, he stepped down as contracts manager and now looks after the team of carpenters within DB Sharp.
Outside of work Malcom has a huge passion for Soul and Rare Groove music. He has a built up an enviable record collection over the last 40 years that now boast in excess of 10,000 records, and growing. Malcom can often be found in a music shop, at a market or car boot sale hunting for a rare track! He is is also a part time DJ with a large local following, Malcom’s gigs are always packed and he creates a great atmosphere wherever he plays. To relax Malcom is a keen course fisherman.
Bob is a carpenter by trade who served his apprenticeship working on Laing building sites in Windsor. After 3 years Bob set out on his own as a self employed chippie and worked in and around London for the next 7 years. In the late 1990's Bob set up RE Lucas carpentry and over the next 19 years built up a great reputation for providing quality craftsmanship working with the likes of Galliford Try and Excel construction. In addition in 2002 Bob and a close friend formed Cross County Construction, the company took on building new homes as well as various barn conversion projects across the home counties. With the arrival of a young son in 2012 Bob wanted to spend more time at home and took a full time job as a contracts manager with Mossfords Construction working with the like of Brookfield Multi Plex, Kiers and Wilmott Dixons.
With a desire to work more locally Bob joined DB Sharp in spring 2016 as our Contracts Manager and brings with him a vast wealth of knowledge and the experience that is required to work on larger sites. He is a great addition to our team.
When not working Bob likes to spend time with his son William, who made the paper being born on Christmas day and being the son of a carpenter we expect big things from him! Bob is a keen rugby fan and has played for Hertford for over 25 years, captaining the 3rd team for many of those years. His love of rugby has seen him play in South Africa, Argentina, France, Spain and even against Trevisso. A Rugby playing Builder........he is certainly a great fit within our company.
After leaving school Dannii moved straight into employment. Her bright, bubbly, cheerful attitude helped her to secure a sales role with Archant working on The Comet newspaper, securing advertisements for the Trades and Services section. After 3 years Dannii moved on to her first admin role temping for a local engineering company, before moving on to work for Herts Career Services. In this role Dannii was responsible for organising work experience placements for the children of the local schools throughout Hertfordshire, Dannii left after 4 years. Dannii joined the DBS team in 2012 and has been a hugely valued asset since.
Dannii loves spending time with her husband and 2 children outside of work, and loves a good holiday away in the sun with them all. She is keen on her fitness taking part in spinning classes and swimming several times each week. Dannii loves to socialise with her friends and family, and enjoys catching up over a few nice cocktails. She often bakes and provides some very tasty cakes for the office that never hang around long!
Sean left school at 15 and went to work for his father’s company K.Davis Flooring where over the next 20 years he mastered his trade. Together Ken and Sean sub contracted to DB Sharp and sons when the company was run by its founder Derek Sharp. Once both fathers retired and Sean took over running the he continued the working relationship with DBS. 15 years ago Sean re-branded the company as Galapast. With a drive to expand the company he joined forces with DB Sharp and sons 2 years ago and the company has continued to go from strength to strength and show significant growth. Sean’s team cover all aspects of flooring and tiling, and several specialise in the refurbishment and repair of original wood floors.
When Sean isn’t working, which isn’t that often, he is a keen skier. He gets away at least once a year to indulge in his favourite past time. Besides this Sean is currently transforming a T4 VW Van into a camper enabling him to have some more great adventures. If he finds time between, work, skiing and the camper Sean enjoys taking long works with his dogs and squeezing in the odd game of golf.
Gareth left Sam Whitbread at 17 when he managed to gain an electrical apprenticeship with Peter A Wright, after 3 years Gareth qualified and stayed working with the company for a further 7 years. He then decided to break away and set up his on company, Ray of light Electrical. Over the next 8 years Gareth excelled in building a loyal customer base by providing an excellent service coupled with a high quality work ethic and it was this that caught the eye of DB Sharp and sons who bought him on board in 2016 to run their electrical division. Gareth is a vibrant character who enjoys the challenge of growing the division while maintaining great customer service and quality workmanship.
Outside of work when not spending time with his family, Gareth is a keen footballer playing left mid field for local side Henlow. He works hard to keep fit and stay competitive, which is a must when your the oldest player in the team!
Richard left school to follow a career as a trainee accountant with WKH in Letchworth, he soon discovered this was not the path he wanted to take! He joined DB Sharp and Sons in 2006 as a labourer. His ambitious nature meant he was always hungry for more and decided he wanted a trade, he chose plumbing. He put himself through his 3 year apprenticeship college course and passed with flying colours. Richard has worked with DB Sharp ever since always striving to improve his knowledge. Richard also put himself forward for his Gas Safety Certificate which again he passed. Richard was made plumbing manager for the company in 2015.
Outside of work being a new dad with a young family keeps Richard busy, he also likes to find time to fit in riding his motorbike and keeping up with his other hobby playing badminton.
